Why do we look at a flower and decide that it is beautiful?

Why do we look at a flower and decide that it is beautiful? Perhaps it’s because we have a sixth sense for things that are aesthetically pleasing; or perhaps because the media says so. For example; what, today, is classified as hot?

Don’t tell anyone, Keep it to yourself.

Now, what made you think this way?

Are you thinking of a popular icon?

Are you thinking of plunging necklines and short skirts?

Or are you thinking of bell bottoms and corsets?

Now share with your friends.

What do they think is 'hot'?

What do they think is 'hot' or beautiful?

It’s all the same isn’t it?

We are all led by one mind; Media. Media influences what we perceive as beauty. Media tells us that beauty is this. Therefore beauty is indeed 'this’.

What led the evolution of trends?

‘Twas the media.

In the 1960s, you wore tie dye shirts, miniskirts, and bell bottoms. Hippy was in. Hippies. They got media coverage, instantaneously people caught on. People started following the trends.

In the 1970s, you wore full length dresses, and flared, flower printed clothes. The Osmond’s. Jackson 5. David Essex. All the media influences. Film starts to have a greater influence on people.

In the 1980s, you wore shoulder padded suits and traditional culture looks. People wore legwarmers and that was the biggest popular trend. Everyone wore parachute pants and people wore shiny jackets. They were called satin jackets. They buttoned down from the front. What influenced you? Princess Diana. Madchester. Tom Bailey. All significant people in the media, all influencing people’s perceptions of beauty.

Today. People today wear different types of clothes. Most people wear designer clothes, such as Ecko, Baby Phat, Rocawear, G-Unit and Sean John. People wear different types of clothing. But they’re all based on the media. You look around and you think you see something different. Oh wait. It’s just a Goth rock wannabe. Oh wait what’s that. Nope. Emo trend. Hmm is that..? Nope. Standard rapper gear.

This is my conclusion.

Beauty doesn't exist anymore. It is merely a facade. It is something you wear to fit in Fitting in, being like everyone else: that is beauty.

This is my perception of beauty.

I suppose beauty is to be aesthetically pleasing to yourself. Even if others think otherwise. I guess?

Beauty is, after all, in the eyes of the beholder =)

Haha. I've been waiting a long time to read a post like this by someone other than myself XD We have slightly similar opinions on this it seems, except mine's on the misshapen idea of indiviuality instead of beauty.

Individuality is expressed through the endorsement of branded products yeah! haha.

Nice post! I look forward to more like this =)
